Weekly News
Weekly News Blast I hope that you all enjoyed the start of our school year and are looking forward to the next phase in our year! For the next few weeks your students will be focusing on the following units: In math we are continuing our geometry study. Grades 5 and 6 are learning about perimeter and area, and grades 7 and 8 are learning about angles, triangles and how to use a protractor. LAst Friday we completed our first geometry project where we worked together to create a geometry town! It was tons on fun and students got to pick their own theme! We had a Pokemon Horse Ranch, a Mushroom Kingdom and a Tickle Town all with parallel roads, geometric shapes and lines and angles. In History we just finished our first unit on the Native Americans (grades 5 and 6) and Pre-historics (grades 7and 8) We had a great time creating and labeling maps and writing and reading about these topics. In ELA we continue our explorations in reading using the Scott Foresman curriculum. Each wee we complete a vocab. packet for homework and these words coincide with our leveled reading. Each week is also a reading theme and videos that we watch to help us with our reading comprehension skills. For writing each week we complete one writing assignment from start to finish. Each day is a different part of the writing process. In Science we have just begun a study of the life cycle. We will be learning about butterflies and frogs, how they grow and develop in their life cycle. As always, I have included a wish list of items for class at the bottom of this news blast.
