7th Grade Tech. Ed.
Seventh Grade Technology Education
Technology Education at the seventh grade level focuses on construction technology, drafting, CAD, and manufacturing. The construction unit involves a scaled floor plan of a single story home. The final floor plan is produced using Computer Aided Design. For students who would like an additional challenge, there is the option of creating elevations. The entire house can be printed out on card stock and assembled into a 3D scaled model. The house must meet or exceed local building codes.
A product is also produced in the manufacturing area (the actual product will vary). Providing an alternate classroom activity that does not require the use of the classroom computers is common in this learning area. Class size exceeds the amount of computers available so it is often necessary to run multiple activities in the lab. Students alternate between computer time and projects in the manufacturing area throughout the trimester.
As in the previous grades, students maintain a portfolio with rubrics, worksheets, or digital pictures of completed projects. Students are also required to keep a classroom journal to record daily progress. Journal entries should contain vocabulary words associated with each unit of study.
