Ms. Smith Grade 7 2009-2010 Team I Can... Welcome parents and students to 7th Grade Science! I am looking forward to a successful and enjoyable year in Science. In order for us to have a successful academic year, students must come to class focused on learning and prepared to perform at their highest academic level. Here are a few ways to help students have a successful year: Materials: One way for students to have a successful year is by bringing the appropriate materials to class everyday. • Science Binder or separate science section • Loose-leaf Paper • Blue or Black Pens • Highlighter (any color) • Sharpened #2 Pencils • Colored Pencils • Basic Function Calculator Notebook Organization: Your Science section should be organized in chronological order -- all assignments (Do Now’s, Classwork, Homework, and Assessments) are dated and numbered. DO NOT clean out your Science section without permission from your teacher. Grading Policy: Your grade in Science is based on the following percentages: Classwork: Do Now’s, Lab Investigations, Cooperative Group Work 50% of the grade Homework: 20% of the grade Assessments: Quizzes, Tests, Projects 30% of the grade Missed Assignments Due to Absences: In accordance with Natick Schools policy, it is the student’s responsibility to make up all missed work in a timely manner. You may check the calendar on the bulletin board in the classroom to find out what you missed and collect your paper(s) from the correct folder. If you are absent on days of scheduled assessments (quizzes and tests) you MUST make arrangements to make up the missed grade outside of class time. Coach Class: Parents let your child know its OK to ask teachers for help and that you are available, too. I will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:05-3:00.
